Students who earn a communications degree are known to have a plethora of different skills that can be applied to various fields. Individuals can find a good fit to work in advertising, marketing, media, writing, event planning, public relations, or other business-related areas. Communication majors are versed in both written and spoken word in their education, making them a valuable asset to their employers.
In the business arena covers so many different jobs, those who have worked communications degree often find themselves drawn to this area. Marketing and advertising are the largest departments located in the business. Those who are interested in marketing often find themselves well positioned to position as market expert. These individuals research, analyze, and collect data on certain products business is producing. They evaluate the effectiveness of current marketing strategies, and submit a progress report to their company, and tips on how to increase customer satisfaction and overall profits. Advertising areas that are targeted communications professions are copywriting, media department, planning department mailbox and account management department. All these divisions focused on different aspects, but all have the same end goal: to create effective ads. Ads may be brochures, ads, jingles, etc.
If public relations (PR) is more your area, first figure out what kind of business fits your wants and needs. Large companies offer a lot of opportunities, a lot of PR team, and usually have a high reputation in the PR world. Smaller PR companies are more local and community-focused than their larger counterparts. A company that is not so large will probably have their employees responsible for more than one job. These companies do not have the luxury of a large PR team, where each person can focus on one task and one task only. The bonus in my PR business is the opportunity to help this company grow and evolve. Those who choose to work in this particular public relations agencies often become invaluable to the company because of their role in helping to progress the business. The public relations option is to work for non-profit organization. These locations will focus on a specific task, such as the environment, help children etc.
Since communication majors have great writing, find some career writing and editing, either in independent agent or company. Businesses are always looking for people who understand and know how to correctly use grammar, prepositions, alliteration, compound and complex sentences, where to put commas, etc. Being able to both write and edit your own work is also a big plus.
While other telecommunications career area are also available, the three mentioned in this article are the places with the highest level of individuals who have earned communications degrees. One thing to remember if you have earned this degree is that you learn skills that can be applied to almost any field.
